Employment is not the same for every high school. For us, alternative education is all about relationships. We look for people who are passionate and capable in their subject area. High school teachers should have a spirit of generosity. Although our Compass High School teaching staff share common goals and visions for our students, we hail from all walks of life which reflects in the diversity of our teaching styles and methods. We believe that our students are unique learners that need to be supported and challenged in a variety of ways.
We strive to maintain an open culture in which everyone is a hands-on contributor and feels comfortable sharing ideas and opinions. In our weekly faculty and professional development meetings, our Compass High School teaching staff ask questions about any number of items that concern our students, our teachers, and our school. Our learning community, for instance, is designed to invoke interactions between students and teachers. We endeavor to initiate a learning dialog and inspire collaboration.
Potential High School Employment Candidates Will:
- Recognize a professional commitment to teaching.
- Demonstrate respect for adolescents and know how to challenge them appropriately.
- Possess a sense of humor and social vision grounded in tolerance and equality.
- Move students toward adulthood by modeling positive adult roles.
